Compare Available Personal Accounts in Cyprus

Almost every bank in Cyprus offers a personal account. Their differences hide in the details, from fees and cards to transfers, cash access, and online banking. Because of that, the banking experience can vary quite a bit from one provider to another.

We bring those details together so you can compare personal accounts from Cyprus banks and find the one that fits your needs perfectly.

Basics

What is a Personal Bank Account?

A personal bank account covers your everyday spending and money management. You can use it for card and digital payments, cash withdrawals, transfers, and receiving money.

Different banks offer different products and present accounts in ways unique to them. Because of that, “personal account” is not always the official product name. Depending on the bank, you may see anything from current and salary accounts to payment accounts or accounts with basic features.

They all offer everyday banking services, but they do not necessarily include the same perks.

What you get with a personal account depends on the bank and the product. Some bundle the essentials, such as a debit card and everyday transactions, while others offer broader current-account features such as chequebooks, overdrafts, multiple currencies or additional card options.

That is why we compare the account itself, not just the bank that provides it.

Don’t need a personal account?

Costs

What Will the Account Really Cost You?

The account maintenance fees that we help you compare are only the starting point.

The real cost can sometimes be affected by which transactions you make, how often you make them, and which channel you use. An account with a lower fixed fee can end up costing you more if it charges for services you use every month.

When comparing personal accounts in Cyprus with us, take a look at:

Regular Costs

Account maintenance and card fees are the easiest charges to spot because they apply on a regular basis.

Using Your Money

ATM withdrawals, transfers, standing orders and direct debits may carry separate fees, especially when you use another bank or complete a transaction in branch.

International Use

Foreign-currency payments and international transfers can add both transaction and exchange costs.

Extra Charges

Overdrafts, rejected payments, paper statements and certain account services may come with additional fees. We compare these costs alongside the account itself, so a low headline fee does not hide a more expensive way to bank.

Providers

Local Bank, Digital Provider or Both?

A personal account from a Cyprus bank can provide local branches, cash services, a Cyprus banking relationship, and access to other products offered by the same provider.

Digital providers offer a different experience, particularly for app-based money management, international transfers, or holding several currencies. However, they are not all licensed or structured in the same way.

If you are comparing the two with us, check:

  • Branch and cash access
  • Everyday account and card fees
  • Transfer and currency exchange costs
  • App and online banking features
  • Salary, bills, direct debits and other regular payments
  • Access to the local payment services or banking features you need
  • Customer support and how easy it is to get help

And you really don’t need to choose one or the other. Some people use a Cyprus personal account for salary, bills and local banking, then use a separate digital service for travel or international payments.

Account and bank

Compare the Account & the Bank

Account features are the most important, but your experience will also depend on the provider offering them.

After narrowing down the personal accounts that suit you, compare the banks on:

Access

Can you use a branch, ATM, website and mobile app in the way you prefer? Look at how easy it is to access your money and complete everyday banking, including ATM coverage, cash deposits and the services available online versus in branch.

Support

Check how you can contact the bank, when support is available and what happens if your card is lost or a payment is blocked.

Other Products

If you expect to apply for a loan, mortgage or savings product later, you may prefer a bank that covers more of your financial needs. However, having a personal account does not guarantee approval or better terms for another product.

Deposit Protection

Eligible deposits at Cyprus-licensed banks are protected up to €100,000 per depositor, per bank, including accrued interest. If you hold several accounts with the same bank, the balances are normally combined for this limit.

The relevant protection can be different for a foreign bank branch or non-bank digital provider, so check which scheme or safeguarding arrangement applies.

Switching

Should You Switch Banks or Add a Second Account?

You should consider switching accounts if your current bank charges too much or does not offer services you need. Adding a second account can be a good alternative when you want to keep your existing setup but need something your current account does not handle well, such as backup access, cheaper transfers, another currency, or separate spending.

Switching makes sense if:

  • Your regular banking fees are too high
  • Important services are missing
  • You repeatedly pay extra for cash or transfers
  • The digital service does not meet your needs
  • Accessing help or completing basic tasks is difficult

Cyprus has a formal bank account switching service that can take much of the admin off your hands. The new bank can coordinate with your old bank to move selected standing orders and direct debits, notify regular payers of your new account details, transfer your remaining balance, and close the old account if you ask it to.

A second account can be a good option if:

  • You want to separate bills from everyday spending
  • You need a backup card and another way to access money
  • One provider is better for cash while another is better for transfers
  • You want to manage shared expenses separately
  • You regularly use another currency

A two-account setup works well as long as the additional fees and administration are worthwhile. Compare whether maintaining two accounts will cost more than the problem it solves.

How We Compare Personal Accounts

Personal-account information is often split between the main product page, card pricing, transaction tariffs, account terms and digital-banking information.

We bring those details together and organise them for you to compare.

We Check the Complete Account

We look into more than just the account maintenance fee. Where information is available, we check cards, cash withdrawals, transfers, supported currencies, ways to bank, eligibility and application methods.

We Compare Like With Like

A salary account, joint account and payment account with basic features are not automatically direct alternatives. We identify the account type and intended customer so you can compare relevant options because not every personal account is the same product.

We’re Transparent About Missing Information

If we can’t confirm a fee, feature, or requirement, we let you know that the information is missing.

We Leave the Final Decision To You

We do not name one personal account as the best for everyone. Your best option depends on the transactions you make, the access you need, and the fees those choices create.
