BANKING GUIDE

Bank account fees explained

1 min read

Account maintenance, plus separate card, ATM and transfer costs.

Current-account pricing is rarely a single number. It is a set of separate charges, and which ones you actually pay depends on how you use the account.

  • Account maintenance

A recurring monthly or annual charge for holding the account. When a monthly account-maintenance amount is recorded in our data, we multiply it by twelve for the headline yearly figure; a recorded €0 amount is shown as No maintenance fee.

  • Card charges

Issuing, renewing or replacing a debit card may be charged separately, and several card variants can exist for one account. Where pricing varies by card, we point you to the card options rather than picking one.

  • ATM and transfer charges

Cash withdrawals can be free at the provider's own machines and charged elsewhere. Transfers are often priced by channel: online, branch or international.

  • Conditional charges

Some fees only apply above a limit, outside a free allowance or in a specific age band. These stay listed separately and are not folded into the account-maintenance headline.
